WSPA Action Alert: urge the Hawaii Legislature to protect bears around the world

Last year, we asked our supporters to urge the New York State Legislature to make commercial trade of bear gallbladders and bile unlawful. As a result, the Governor enacted a law to govern the trade of bear products and protect New York's wildlife.

Now it is Hawaii's turn - it is currently one of only a few states in the U.S. where the commercial trade of bear bile and products is unrestricted. Senate Bill 2232 (SB2232) and House Bill 2296 (HB2296) will ban the trade of bear bile and…

Running from Asia to Europe for Animals Asia

My sister Silke and I have registered for the Istanbul Marathon on 11th November this year to raise vital funds for Animals Asia.  This is the only marathon where you can run from one continent to another and as it's from Asia to Europe we thought it would be a perfect challenge for Animals Asia.

I have never run a marathon in my life so it will be a huge challenge. Although Silke has run one before it was 6 years ago when she was much fitter and the Prague marathon is…

Animals Asia China Trek

I took part in the Animals Asia China trek last month, which took us to some of the remotest areas of China with the most stunning scenery.  The trek culminated in a visit to the Moon Bear Rescue Centre in Chengdu, which was as I expected very emotional.  I felt anger, sadness and immense happiness at the same time.  Anger and sadness for all the years of suffering of those rescued and all those still incarcerated in those hell holes and happiness for the rescued bears, who now live free of…

Dancing Bears Documentary

Hi Guys,

I am a student at University and planning to visit Bulgaria in January to film a Documentary about the Dancing Bears. My aim is to give an insight into how they were treated and to speak to animal rights activists that can talk about them on a personal level, for example, somebody that may have seen the Bears being mistreated.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

WSPA News: Vietnam cracks down on bear bile tourism

Thanks to your support of WSPA, our partners in Vietnam are exposing brutal bear bile tourism. As a result, the government has ordered an end to the practice, and threatened tough penalties for offenders.

Tour companies had been taking tourists to bear farms so they could watch the extraction of bile from live bears, and then purchase bile products illegally. Following the investigation by WSPA's local partner Education for Nature Vietnam, the government has now declared companies…

I'm also thrilled that we have even more fans for the page which will make it much easier to have another fundraiser in the future. Keep asking friends to join the page.

An escaped moon bear from Kohwun Botanical Garden, Cheungyang- gun, Korea was shot dead on 31 Jan, 2011.

The male moon bear escaped from the Kohwun Botanical Garden Zoo by lifting the gate, and was hiding in a nearby cave only 700 meters away from the zoo.

When found, he had escaped the 30 hunters who followed him for 3 hours and died from 4 gunshot…
