Once Upon a Moonbear

Check out my new Lens at Squidoo. The Lens features the children's book Ura's World, which was written by John Walker, who happens to be a keen fan of moonbears.org. Ura's World is beautifully crafted and bound, and tells a wonderful tale. The book is the perfect tool for teaching little people about moonbears and makes a gorgeous gift for any youngster. In my opinion, the book belongs in every classroom and library across the globe. Ura's World is published in Korean and En… Continue

Hi Jeanette,

I'm a veterinary student at Tufts so I'm learning about all kinds of animals and their health. I'm concentrating on international and conservation medicine, mainly because I've always been interested in great ape conservation. I accidentally got introduced to sun bears last summer while working with the Great Orangutan Project and now I'm totally hooked. I'm planning to do research this summer. Hopefully I'll figure out something that will help the bears in captivity and in the wild!

Hi Jeanette,

For 5 1/2 years I have been involved in the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured Black bears at a facility in Ontario. I am no longer with that facility but will continue in the future to rehab and help the bears in need. I would love to help in any way I can. I am a photographer and a great volunteer for events. I will read up on the concerts and the Art of the Bear and see how I am be of assistance.

Good luck on your camera. Hope you get a good one.
"Endangered" is a layman term. Unless they said IUCN Red List as "Endangered", then they are wrong. A better term is "threatened" species.

Good to know you have seen a real sun bear. Did you take photos of the cute cubs? Please send me some if you do. Hope you take a lot of photos of these sun bears to show the world. The world need to see what you saw and what I saw. It is not fair and not right that the world did not know about them. We have the mission to tell their stories. If we don't, no one will.

Jeanette..!!..I wish to thank you personally and publicly for putting
"WORLD FREEDOM SONG (Together We Are One)" on the UFP Playlist......this truly is an important work of Art that supports fully the UFP agenda as you know I do completely and unequivocally.......

Once again I too wish to thank you also for your tireless and selfless deeds to help the bear species worldwide in their dire times of need such as with our ever growing International Benefit For The Bears Concert Series which we began this past June.

Please know that Mafis' Song, World Freedom Song, and other similar Eco/Socio Songs for Change are rapidly hitting the charts worldwide as the international support and recognition in the World Community continues to rally behind you as well......

The whole world is watching and learning as we grow......it is one of the highlights of my career in over thirty five years in the Music Business, and hundreds of shows for a myriad of eco/socially important causes and benefits, to be associated with and a proud member of, URSA FREEDOM PROJECT.....

I pledge my unwavering support and dedication to your organization and look forward to many years of continued growth and success for Us, and look forward to the day when Mafis' cousins......and all her cousins in the bear kingdoms........are Free and unendangered......as long as this Cherokee Song Carrier AIM Rainbow Warrior is alive and kicking up dust on this planet.........count on me....I'll be around.........

All my blessings dear Friend

I'm happy to be involved. These kinds of organizations and funds are the only things keeping me sane as I continue on getting my degree in Con. Biology. These are the little sheds of hope for me and my way to get involved while I'm still tied to school. I have one more year and then I'll be going on with the Peace Corps as a Wildlife worker in Africa, where I can actually do some real good that goes beyond what I'm doing now. I keep telling my family, "My heart belongs to Africa" and they just laugh. I'm very excited about the new work with arts and such. Sounds promising.

Trafficking bears and their parts for use in traditional Asian medicine is decimating wild populations of bears.

Unless urgent reforms are introduced quickly, many species face an irreversible fate: extinction. There are over 50 herbal alternatives to bear bile for use in TCM. Download the WSPA pamphlet Herbal Alternatives to Bear Bile.

"The longer we wait, the more expensive it will be to prevent future extinctions," says Dr Jane Smart, Head of IUCN's Species Programme. "We now know what species are threatened, what the threats are and where we have no more excuses to watch from the sidelines." Hunted for sport, shot for their fur, killed for their gall bladders, farmed for their bile, used as 'dancing bears' and used in circuses ... their habitat is being destroyed. They need our protection. ~ WSPA
